The variants of poker

Although there are only three basic types of poker games, Piggs Peak Poker offers enough variants of each game, to ensure that you are continuously challenged. A game of poker has so many nuances and layers, and as you start to unravel its mysteries, it seems to evolve even more.

The most fascinating part about poker is that there are no hard and fast rules. Every time that your opponent makes a move, you will have to come up with a new strategy. And every time that new cards are dealt- you have to rethink your approach.

However, before you can eventually master the game, you have to first learn the basics of poker.

Although there are a huge number of poker variants, they are all actually derived from three basic types of poker. They are:

  • Draw poker
In draw poker the players are dealt a complete hand that is hidden from their opponents. With every round, they have an opportunity to discard and replace some of their cards, in a bid to eventually achieve the best possible 5-card poker hand. The most common variant of this type of poker game, is 5-card Draw Poker.
  • Stud poker
In stud poker the players will receive some cards that are completely hidden from their opponents, and some that are placed face-up, visible for all players to view. Once again, it has multiple betting rounds, during which players will bet on their own probability to achieve the best poker hand of all. The most played variants of this type, are Five-Card Stud Poker; Seven-card Stud Poker and Razz.
  • Community card poker

In community card poker every player will receive some cards that are placed face down, hidden from their opponents. The balance of the cards is community cards that are placed face up and are shared by everyone. Players have to form the best possible poker hand, from this combination. This is the most frequently played type of poker, with the most popular variant being Texas hold’em poker- more commonly known as party poker or Texas poker. These are further divided into Limit Texas Hold’em and No Limit Texas Hold’em. Another very popular variant of this type, is Omaha.   In addition, there is also HORSE, which is basically a mix of different types and variants of poker.

Now that you have an understanding about the basic types of games in poker as well as its variants, you can start to learn how to play any poker games you like.

Please note that should you require any further information or assistance while learning to play any of these, for your convenience, the Piggs Peak Poker team offers you 24/7 Support.
