5 Card Stud Poker

5 Card Stud Poker is a type of stud poker, which means that some of your cards are dealt face up, visible to all players, and some are dealt face down (called hole cards). This makes for an interesting variety, should you feel the need to try your hand at different poker games. In 5 Card Stud Poker, one of your cards is dealt face down and four cards are eventually dealt face up, for everyone to see. The objective of this poker game is to create the best 5-Card poker hand with all five cards that you are dealt, including the ones that are dealt face up as well as the one that is dealt face down.

Following the ante (this is the opening bet), the starting hand is dealt. Each player is then as explained, dealt one card face down (which only you can see) and one card face up.

The rules in this variant of stud poker, stipulate that the player who has the lowest face up card has to make a forced bet and open the first betting round. This amounts to anywhere between half the minimum bet and the full bet (the player can choose). Betting then ensues clockwise, from where the other players can either match the bet by “calling” or drop their cards and “folding” their hand, should they think that there chances of winning are too weak.

Following the first round of betting, each of the players is dealt a third card face up (referred to as the 3rd street). This time the player with the highest card opens the betting round. The players can now make one of three choices, “raise” by adding more chips to the pot, “check” by passing the betting opportunity to the next person, or “fold” by dropping the cards.

Once the 3rd Street’s betting round had concluded a fourth card will be dealt to each player, starting the 4th Street. Again, the person with the highest fourth card will open the betting round.

After the 4th Street the final face up card is dealt to each player and the person with the highest fifth card (the 5th Street) opens the betting round.

When the betting has concluded all the players that are still remaining have to show their closed card as well, to reveal who has the highest poker hand and wins the pot.
