Hosted by the “Voice of Poker” Jesse May, a ground-breaking poker radio show has just kicked off in the UK, running from 8-11pm UK time on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays. The interactive show is said to feature discussions on any significant poker issues on the poker scene and will enable listeners to participate. Says Jesse May…. “We want every poker rookie; junkie, sicko and nut to tune in… we’ll be watching, gossiping and sweating everything that’s going on in the poker world.”
No doubt the decision to launch this show follows the popularity of poker radio shows in the rest of the world, such as the World Series of Poker Radio. With coast-to-coast coverage to more than 200 stations of the Sports Byline Radio Network in the US, this is the radio show of choice for millions of WSOP poker fans. Hosted by Nick Geber, also known for being a regular commentator for World Series of Poker Live, the show hosts some of the biggest names in poker, including poker celebrities; WSOP champions and rising poker stars.

Some of the biggest guns on the poker scene have been spotted entering for the WPT (World Poker Tour) Bellagio, to compete for a jaw dropping prize pool of more than $8million. The first day of the tournament saw the likes of Barry Greenstein; Chris “Jesus” Ferguson; Phil Ivey; Howard Lederer; “Poker Kid” Daniel Negreanu; J.C. Tran; Erick Lindgren and Sammy Farha compete. Achievement during the WPT events also earns players who are in the running for the Bluff Player of the Year, some valuable points.
But competition is tough and to claim the first prize of more than $2million, these players will have to outsmart more than 300 other equally determined players. The action was intense from the word go and during the early stages, some well known names on the poker scene were already busted. This includes Allen Cunningham who has 16 first place finishes and live poker earnings of close to $10million behind his name; WSOP Bracelet winner Ryan Young; multiple WSOP Bracelet winner Lyle Berman and Clonie Gowen.
With the first day of this major poker tournament concluded, the chip leader at this stage is Vadim Trincher, with 309,725 chips, followed by Johnny Chan with 291,675 chips. To find out who finally claims the victory at the WPT Bellagio, keep your eye on this spot.

Two 4-of-a-Kinds triggers the Bad Beat Jackpot

How often do you see a 4-of-a-Kind? Well, at Piggs Peak Poker we often see not one, but two 4-of-a-Kind’s during one hand. This is exactly why the Bad Beat Jackpot gets triggered so frequently. And it happened again last night to six lucky players who were seated at a R1/R2 Table called Grisham.
When the game kicked off, 540823 must have thought that Lady Luck was on his side. First he was dealt two ladies (Qh-Qs), and then the flop showed Qc-Ah-Qd, giving him a 4-of-a-Kind. However, he played it cool, simply checked and only started raising the stakes by the turn, which delivered another As. But by the time the board rivered a 7h, he went All-In for R167.00. Great was his surprise though when ALPHA-MALE called and flipped over two Aces to make up the higher 4-of-a-Kind!
Fortunately the bad taste that such a bad beat would normally leave in one’s mouth did not last long at all. This is because the hand triggered the Bad Beat Jackpot, compensating 540823 with the greatest portion of the loot and rewarding the other five players who participated in the hand with much more than they bargained for too.
This is how the Bad Beat Jackpot was split: Zanzie, who had a balance of R162.09, won a Bad Beat Amount of R2756.24 540823, who suffered the Bad Beat was rewarded with a handsome R22049.93 ALPHA-MALE, who took the pot got another fat prize of R11024.96 AFlush, who had a balance of R108.00, won a Bad Beat Amount of R2756.24 TheBatman, who had a balance of R78.90, won a Bad Beat Amount of R2756.24 bklacke, who had a balance of a mere R41.46 left, got a hefty bankroll again with his share of R2756.24.
So if you think that the odds of hitting a 4-of-a-kind are'nt great.….. think again!

The countdown for the 40 Greatest Poker Champions has begun

To commemorate the 40th Birthday of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in 2009, Bluff Magazine Europe has just launched the 40 Greatest Poker Champions Awards, which will acknowledge the players who best represent the game of poker, or especially the World Series of Poker.
Lance Bradley, Managing Editor of Bluff Magazine and Editor-in-Chief of WorldSeriesofPoker.com explain that this will be no easy task and that the selections will most probably spur huge debates within the poker community. But to make the nominations as fair as possible, poker players and journalist were requested to participate by compiling a list of worthy players, using criteria such as WSOP Main Event Performances; number of bracelets won and valuable or historical contributions made towards the WSOP, since its inception.
Counting down to the 2009 WSOP, a new nominee will be announced on a weekly basis. This has commenced already on the 30th of March 2009, with the first person to be placed on this prestigious list being Jamie Gold. After his victory in the WSOP Championship in 2006, Jamie’s winnings equated to more than $12million, making him one of the biggest winners ever in poker history. Now although everyone will probably agree that Jamie is a true poker star, there are apparently some very surprising nominations on the way. So to find out who is finally regarded as the 40 Greatest Poker Champions ever, keep your eye on this spot.
