Some minor changes to the 2008 World Series of Poker Schedule have been effected, to allow ESPN optimal coverage of the H.O.R.S.E. World Championship. With a steep buy-in of $50,000 into this championship, word has it that these changes are most probably geared towards making the H.OR.S.E the actual Main Event- although this is yet to be formally announced.
The H.O.R.S.E. event was initially scheduled for 12h00 on Sunday, June 22, but has now been moved to 17h00 on Wednesday, June 25. The event is being swapped with the $2,500 Buy-in Deuce-to-Seven Triple-Draw Low Tournament, which will now take place at 12h00 on Sunday, June 22.
The WSOP 2008 still kicks off on the 30th of May 2008 and finishes on the 16th of July. ESPN (Entertainment and Sports Programming Network), will air the coverage of this international poker event immediately after, in July.
As we endeavour to keep you informed of the latest poker news and relevant updates on major poker events, keep your eye on this space.

Last Monday I beat Nexus_za quad tens with a royal flush. We missed the bad beat jackpot because the rake was R0.25 short. That is what one call a real bad beat. Today I received a nice little whiskey gift voucher from Piggs. Not enough to drown my sorrows, but a nice gesture. Thanks Sandy and the Pigss team.

This weekend 3 Piggs Poker once again proved that our players are top notch. Five 3 Piggs Poker players took their seats at the final table of the SA Poker Open held at Monte Casino this past weekend - 10th February 2008.
Anton Bertilsson kicked off the final table as the chip leader, but it was 3 Piggs Poker?s - Darren Kramer who came from the middle of the pack to claim the top honours and win the tournament proving to the local and international poker community that SA poker is a force to be reckoned with.
Anton Bertilsson went from chip leader to being knocked out of the tournament in 8th place after going All-in preflop, holding Q 2 suited against Chris Convery?s Jay Birds, earning himself a sum of +- R116K. Berrny Lengenfelder was next to fall when he lost a race with A-10 against Grant Nelson's pocket nines. Lengenfelder picked up a straight draw on the turn when the board read 5c 8c Jd 9c, but the 5d on the river gave Nelson a full house and sent Lengenfelder home in seventh place (approx a modest R140K).
Nelson?s short lived luck ran out when he was placed sixth after moving in preflop Kc Jh, and Michael called him with 10d 10c, the cards were dealt to no avail and brought Nelson?s SA Poker Open to an end. Convery claimed another victim, this time sending Danny K packing ? Danny did not go home empty handed, earning himself R200K for a weekend?s play, not too shabby if you ask me!
Poker legend Chris Convery was not holding back, knocking out yet another player, this time one of Poker?s favourite daughters ? namely Melanie Banfield. Convery forced Melanie All-in holding Kd 10c ? Melanie showed her cards, packing Qc Jh. The flop fell to the felt, exposing Qs Ks Ad, unfortunately Melanie could not pick up the 10, on the turn the 3rd king was placed and the river revealed a deuce handing Convery a 3 of a kind Kings and knocking Melanie out in 4th place. Melanie took home a well deserved R268K. Michael Holm was busted out in third place (+-R470K) by Darren Kramer to set up heads-up play. Holm pushed his last few chips in the middle with J-5, and Kramer called with K-Q. The board ran out 7s 4c 10s 9s 9d, and Holm headed to the rail.
The pressure was definitively piled on Kramer who went heads up against Convery who had double his stack. But Darren Kramer proved that anything can happen in poker, doubling through Convery a couple of times to nab the chip lead. The final hand was a roller coaster, with Convery moving all in preflop with 10c 6s, and Kramer making the call with 4s 4h. Convery picked up a pair on the 5h Qs 6h flop, and Kramer found a straight draw on the 7c turn. The 8d on the river was the dagger to Convery, as Darren Kramer picked up a straight to take down the SA Poker Open and R1,085,239.00 first-place prize money. Convery won R739,776.72 for his second-place finish.
