Well-known online poker rivals and high rollers Tom “durrrr” Dwan and Patrick Antonius went heads up at what is said to be one of the biggest live cash games in history. The action took place at this weekend, on Sunday 25 January 2009, at “The Million Dollar Poker Cash Game, which was hosted during the 2009 Aussie Millions at Crowne Casino, Melbourne. Played in head-to-head format, it comprised a rotation of Pot-Limit Omaha and No-Limit Texas Hold’em, and a minimum Buy-In of AUD$1 million!!
The first significant pot occurred just prior to the first break, during an Omaha session. After a pre-flop raise, the board showed 2h-Kc-Ah and both players checked. When the turn flipped a 6s, Antonius bet out for $10,000. Dwan, illustrating his usual aggressive play, raised to $37,000, but Antonius took the challenge and raised to $118,000! After some thought, Dwan finally called, but when Antonius led out on the 3s river, he folded. By then, Antonius was taking the lead and had already finished up more than $500,000.
Some of the biggest guns on the cash poker scene then joined the table. This included the likes of Jamie Pickering; Phil Laak; Niki Jedlicka; Chris “Jesus” Ferguson and Andrew Robl.By the end of the first session, “durrrr” managed to almost fully recover from that blow that Antonius incurred, Jamie Pickering made $100,000 in profit, and Phil Laak suffered a $250,000 loss!
Apart from a million dollar bank roll, one no doubt has to have nerves of steel to participate in the Million Dollar Poker Cash Game!

As expected, Jarred Solomon and Ray Rahme performed brilliantly at the 2009 Aussie Millions Main Event. Outsmarting a field of more than 700 players, including some of the most formidable poker pro’s from around the world, both of them finally finished well in the money. Jarred created a record of his own by collecting at two events on the same day! First he was playing at the Aussie Millions Main Event, at a table that included none other than Clonie Gowen, a lady who has 30 money finishes and more than $1million in poker earnings behind her name, as well as Kelly Kim, final tablist of the 2008 World Series of Poker. Jarred held an 8-9 and went all in after flopping a middle pair. He got called by Clonie, who had a J-9. When the board showed a 10 on the turn and then a 7 on the river, Clonie took the pot with the kicker. Jarred was busted in the 63rd position, earning himself a nice enough prize of $15,000. Jarred must have still been hyped up from all the action though, as he immediately headed over to the $5,300 Heads Up Championship, where he finished in an excellent 3rd place and collected another handsome amount of $40,000! At the time, Ray was still playing at the 2009 Aussie Millions Main Event. Right after Nhan Le was eliminated in 37th place, the format of the tournament shifted to 6-handed play at six tables. Ray had an Ac-10h, and when the board showed Kh-3c-10d-7h, he checked-raised Christopher Chronis all in. Chronis, who held a Qh-Jh, had several outs though. When he hit an 8h on the river, he completed a flush and sent Ray to the rail in 36th place. For his efforts, Ray earned $30,000, equating to around R200,000!! “Jarred, Ray, the Piggs Peak Poker crew would like to extend warm congratulations to both of you, for your excellent performance. You ROCK!!”

It doesn’t have to be bad to be badly beaten

Some poker players are elated to be at the receiving end of a Bad Beat…. Sounds ridiculous? Well, not if you’re playing at Piggs Peak Poker Room, the only online poker room that rewards players generously for suffering a Bad Beat. And this weekend, seven more players can attest that….
The action took place at Star Wars table, where Lordclaude; KH01; Snowdrop; Alnilam; Julestar; 0800-Fish and Headspace were playing an R2.00/R4.00 Pot Limit Hold’em Game. Lordclaude was on the button. KH01, who held 10h-9h posted the small blind of R2.00. Snowdrop posted the big blind of R4.00, holding a 7s-10s. Alnilam; Julestar and 0800-Fish folded. Headspace raised for R8.00, holding pocket nines. Lordclaude called for R8.00, holding J-Birds, and Snowdropped folded.
The flop showed a 2c-Jd-Qh. KH01 who was on an open ended draw for a straight flush, played it tight and simply checked. Headspace went all-in for R26.78 and both Lordclaude and KH01 made the call. The turn brought that Kh that KH01 needed to complete a straight flush. However, he continued to slowplay and simply checked. Lordclaude who now had a 3-of-a-kind, bet R8.00. By then KH01 turned up the heat a bit and raised for R65.92. Lordclaude called again.
When the board rivered a Jh, to give Lordclaude a Four-of-a-Kind, he must have though he had the upper hand and therefore went all in for R98.80. However, to his surprise, KH01 called and showed down a straight flush, winning the pot of R423.14! Now although this would seriously hurt under normal circumstances, Lordclaude and all of the active players received a pleasant surprise, as the Bad Beat Jackpot was triggered with this hand. This means that everyone who participated in the game, got a percentage of the winnings, and Lordclaude, who suffered the Bad Beat, won the most! This is how the bounty was split:
Headspace who was down and out won a Bad Beat Amount of R4057.89. Lordclaude who had a balance of R16.97, won a grande anount of R40578.98, for taking that Bad Beat! KH01 who had R423.14 left, won R20289.49. Snowdrop, whose balance was on R308.27, won a Bad Beat Amount of R4057.89. Alnilam, who had R357.80 left on his account, won a Bad Beat Amount of R4057.89. Julestar, who had R634.74 remaining, won a Bad Beat Amount of R4057.89. 0800-Fish, who had R490.35, also won a Bad Beat Amount of R4057.89.
So you see, when playing at Piggs Peak Poker, it does not have to be bad to be badly beaten...!!

In spite of the tough competition, our boys held it up brilliantly. There are now only 78 players standing, who will resume play for day 2A, this coming Wednesday. At this stage Jarred is amongst the top ten chip leaders, with chip counts such as follows:

Day 1b is taking place today, and some of the biggest guns on the poker scene have been seen flexing their poker muscle already, such as "Annette_15" Obrestad; Chris “Jesus” Ferguson; Phil Ivey, JC Tran; Erik Seidel; Billy "The Croc" Argyros, and many more.
But although the competition is tough, Jarred has already proved in one of the circuit events prior to the Main Event, that our players have what it takes to compete against the world’s best. “Jarred, Ray, all of the best for the remainder of the 2009 Aussie Millions Main Event. It comes as no surprise that our very own Jarred Solomon, has made world news by being the latest champion at the 2009 Aussie Millions! To top that, Jarred triumphed at none other than the highly challenging Event #5- $1,1000 H.O.R.S.E., which requires that you have to excel at a number of different poker variants to eliminate your opponent.
Jarred took to the felt with 96 other players, including some of the biggest guns on the Australian poker scene, such as James Obst; Grant Levy; Michael Guzzardi and Billy “The Croc” Argyros. But is was Van Marcus with whom he finally went heads up for a battle described by the PokerNews crew as truly “epic.” Although Van Marcus went in as chip leader and Jarred was but one card away from being eliminated, he simply refused to give up. He first managed to buy himself some more time when he split a pot with Van Marcus and after he gruelling 45-minute session, he managed to miraculously come out as the final victor.
For his first place, Jarred collected a handsome $30,380 as well as the latest must have bling- a golden 2009 Aussie Millions ring. From the Piggs Peak Poker crew: “Jarred, you have once again made us proud. You can count on us rooting for you, for the rest of the 2009 Aussie Millions Events.” To find out how our locals are faring against the rest of the world, stay tuned….

It seems as if all the poker action that is usually pre-dominantly taking place in Vegas, has now moved down under. The Circuit Events of the 2009 Aussie Millions are well under way and already it appears to be attracting the whose who on the poker scene.
Event #1, $1,100 NLHE had a record number of 731 entrants, including big guns such as Tony Hachem; Jamie Pickering; Jason Gray as well as online poker gurus such as Annette Obrestad; Tony G and Michael “TheBigSiCKO” Guzzardi, to name but a few. But it was Germany’s Christian Heich who nabbed the first 2009 Aussie Millions victory and walked away with a swell AUD$150,000.
Event #2, $1,050 PokerPro NLHE is not for the faint-hearted and only around 80 players dared to play at these computerised, dealerless tables. Amongst the bold were Tony “Bonds” Dunst; Jamie Pickering and Annette Obrestad who admitted that this was a first timer for her. But the man who finally beat the machines was Mitchell Carle, who received $25,000 for his efforts.
Event #3, an inaugural $1,100 Limit Omaha Hi-Lo Event drew just over a hundred players such as defending Aussie Millions Champion Alexander Kostritsyn; Ivan Demidov and James Potter. But finally it was Mel Judah, a former hairdresser who has since become a poker force to be reckoned with, who triumphed after a tough 17-hour poker marathon.
Event# 4, $1,100 NLHE saw 140 players took to the felt, including the likes of Tony Dunst; Grant Levyl David Saab; Jesse Maguire; Billy “The Croc” Argyros and once again the young online poker prodigy, Annette Obrestad, who seemed to try out a number of different formats that she has never played before. In the end, it was Zach Gruneberg though that took the honours and walked away with that first prize.
Event #5, a H.O.R.S.E Event has kicked off in the meantime and a host of Hollywood actors; famous musicians; sports stars and poker celebrities are already flocking to Crowne Casino for the 2009 Aussie Millions Media & Celebrity Charity Challenge, which is due to take place tomorrow, on Thursday the 15th of January 2009.

Pamela Anderson’s steamy online poker room (pamelapoker.com) is the latest poker site forced to shut down following stringent enactment of the anti-gambling legislations in the USA. The online poker site which the Hollywood celebrity described as an attempt to make a “quick buck,” promised fans and members revealing photo shoots (amongst others) on her online diary. Poker legend and “grandfather of poker” Doyle Brunson who runs a successful online poker room already, will apparently now take over and try to salvage pamelapoker.com…
