. The action was intense at 2008’s last installment of the All Africa Poker Tournament when two of Piggs Peak Poker’s accomplished players Melanie Banfield and Andre Johnstone went head to head at the final tables.
Banfield’s fate was written when she (holding 10-5), decided to call all in against Johnstone’s trip nines (with 9 A on a flop of 9-9- K). The board was revealed and the K-J additions gave Johnstone a full house and Banfield a highly respectable 5th place finish, which earned her a handsome R125,000 as well as a seat to the Aussie Millions Tour 2009 to the value of R150,000. On top of that, she is only the second woman ever to make it to the final tables of the AAPT.
“Shuffle” Johnstone followed soon thereafter, as he was knocked out in the 3rd place, collecting a grande R250,000. Johnstone will also be joining Team All Africa Poker at the Aussie Millions in 2009.
Both these players had to outplay a strong field of 117 players, including some of the biggest guns on the poker scene, such as the legendary 2007 WSOP final tablist Ray Rahme; former AAPT champion Darren Kramer; esteemed poker pro’s Ryan Brauer; David Dadic; Jared Solomon and many more.
The Piggs Peak Poker crew would like to extend congratulations to these two players: “Well done, you have done us proud on a number of occasions now, proving that you are just as successful at playing live, than at playing online!”

One of the most anticipated poker moments is finally here. All eyes of the world will be on the November Nine this weekend, as the final table of the 2008 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event, is set to kick off this Sunday, the 9th of November 2008. This will also mark the first time that the final table concludes several months after the actual Main Event. These nine players have therefore had the benefit of preparing in advance and getting to know the playing styles of their various opponents beforehand.
Going into final play, Dennis Phillips has the chip lead, with his $26,300,000. But most of the players are short on his heels and anything can still happen. Here’s what the remaining chip stacks look like:
Ivan Demidov with $24,400,000 Scott Montgomery with $19,690,000 Peter Eastgate with $18,375,000 Ylon Schwartz with $12,525,000 Darus Suharto with $12,520,000 David Rheem with $10,230,000 Craig Marquis with $10,210,000 And Kelly Kim with $ 2,620,000
So who will be crowned the new World Poker Champion and walk away with that $9million first prize…?? Keep your eye on this spot for updated news.
