With some of the most talented poker players battling it out at the North American Poker Championship, the remaining two days at the exclusive World Poker Tour event promises some exciting poker action.
It seems like the pros are making a come back, with the five biggest chip stacks all belonging to some exceptionally accomplished players. Here’s a look at the top five players:
In top spot, Vivek Rajkumar still basking in his Borgata Poker Open victory (having won an impressive $1,424,500 prize pot) is the only player with more than a million chips with his stack adding up to $1,080,000 in total… Will he bag another WPT title?
Currently sitting on $979,000 in chips… the seasoned pro Gavin Smith is close on Rajkumar’s heels. Smith has cashed out over 60 times in various tournaments, totalling his live earnings to over three Million Dollars.
Will Matt Matros earn himself a tournament victory? Being the only player in the top five without a first place finish and having earned just a little over a million in total live tournament winnings… He now sits with $943,000 stack, with which he could claim this WPT event.
Perhaps the NAPC title will go to a lady? Being the only lady remaining in the tournament, top female player Kathy Liebert had an exceptional track record. She has earned over 4 million dollars in total live earnings having cashed out more than a 160 times. Liebert presently holds an $879,000 sized chip stack.
The only player at the tournament that really needs no introduction: with over 8 million in total live earnings and 8 WSOP bracelets, Eric Seidel now sits in fifth place with a $851,000 chip stack

Darus Suharto, member of the November Nine who will be battling it out for the world’s most coveted poker title at the 2008 WSOP soon, is currently chip leader at the World Poker Tour North American Poker Championship. There are now 166 players left at the event that kicked off with 454 players, all vying for a share of an estimated prize pool of around $4,4 million.
Day 1c delivered many surprises, with some of the biggest guns on the poker scene, such as John Juanda; Carlos Mortensen and Erick Lindgren busted quite quickly. Daniel Negreanu has survived the day, but did not feature amongst the chip leaders. It was rather Darus Suharto who impressed by finishing top for the day, and who is now overall runner up to Jamie Rosen who came out top in Day 1b.
Darus has been playing online poker for around three years when he won his seat to the 2008 WSOP Main Event through an online satellite. He has won a number of online poker events, but by outplaying more than 6000 players and reaching the final table of the 2008 WSOP, he has finally made his mark on the live poker scene as well. And considering how he held it up against some of the world’s best at the WPT to date, his performance wasn’t just another fluke… Will he continue this quality of play at the final table of the WSOP in November….?? Keep your eye on this spot for updated news.

Piggs Peak Poker player Jared Solomon who entered for the World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) Main Event £10,000 NLHE in London, was so close to the money, he could almost smell it! Solomon joined 362 of some of the biggest guns on the poker scene, in the race for that coveted title and above all, a WSOP bracelet. This included the likes of Andy Bloch; Mike “The Mouth” Matusow; Vanessa Rousso; The Poker Brat Phil Hellmuth; Phil Ivey; Howard Lederer and so on.
Solomon illustrated some great poker play and held it up brilliantly throughout, but in a fatal hand against Talal Shakerchi, his chip stack was crippled to such an extent that he could not recover after that. Shortly after, his was busted by a on a board showing . The Piggs Peak Poker crew would like to congratulate Jared on his performance at what can be regarded as one of the major poker events worldwide. “Well done, Jared. You did us proud.” For more updates and news on what our players are up to on the poker circuit, keep your eye on this spot.

According to Piggs Peak Poker VIP Ryan Dreyer, patience is a poker virtue. And patience has most certainly paid off for Ryan aka “Rhino” who’s most recent achievements has made an impressive mark on the live poker scene. Although Ryan has only been playing live poker tournaments for around 18 months now, he managed to outsmart close to 300 players from around the world and walked away with the victory as well as a handsome cash prize of $650,000 early in September 2008 at the Sun City Million Dollar Poker Challenge.
Although local journalists speculated on prospective winners such as All Africa Poker Tournament Champion Darren Kramer and local poker legend Ray Rahme who finished 3rd at the 2007 World Series of Poker, it was the “Rhino,” whose placid demeanour around the poker tables can be dangerously underestimated, that finally triumphed. In fact, not only did he outplay some of the best on the African poker circuit, but also some of the biggest names in international poker, such as Shannen Elizabeth; Patrik Antonius; Michael Binger who made it to the final tables at the WSOP as well as celebrities such as Danny K.
In the short period since “Rhino” has started participating live poker tournaments, he has been a familiar face at the final tables. Last year, he finished 6th at the Sun City Million Dollar Poker Challenge, was runner up at PokerAce, Carousel and ended deep in major international poker events such as the World Series of Poker and the Aussie Millions.
Dreyer’s interest in competing on this level has to stem from his involvement in the All Africa Poker Tournament. Not only does he edit hours of live poker footage, which is screened on the Poker Channel, but he is also the lead commentator for this esteemed poker tournament. “The All Africa Poker Tournament has certainly made me more of a student of the game,” says Dreyer. Dreyer can also be caught in action in a newly launched poker programme: “Ask the Commentators,” where he forms part of a team of professionals that give practical poker tips based on actual poker scenarios. And since Ryan has proved that he can put his money where his mouth is, we bet his advice can be taken to heart!
