Omaha PokerOmaha is one of the most fashionable community poker card games that are played around poker tables on land or at online casinos - almost as popular as texas hold'em.
The game is very similar to hold'em poker, with community cards that are shared by all. The major difference is that with Omaha poker, a player receives a total of four hole cards, instead of only two as in texas hold'em. When you play hold'em poker, you are allowed to use a combination of any, or none of your hole cards and the community cards to make up the best possible 5-card hand. But when playing omaha, it is compulsory to use two of the four hole cards you received, as well as three community cards to form the best possible poker hand.
With Omaha, you are more likely to see straights and flushes on the showdown, and not too many pairs. But beware - do not make the same mistake that many beginners make when playing Omaha poker: thinking they could use only one of their hole cards to form a 5-card hand. For example - there are four diamonds in the community cards, and you hold another diamond in your hand (one of your four hole cards). You instinctively think you can form a flush, right? Wrong! Because remember, you HAVE TO use two of your hole cards when playing Omaha.
In all other aspects, al the rules and procedures for Omaha is exactly the same as for texas hold'em. Click here to read our comprehensive guide to learn how to play hold'em poker, and you will learn to play Omaha at the same time.
